First Archive

This guide collects only saved Codex sessions for an initial run. Replace codex with another ID from Source Coverage if needed. Complete Installation first.

Inspect Discovery

aesop doctor --json
aesop collect --source codex --dry-run --json

A dry run inspects discovery without copying source artifacts or launching an authenticated browser. It does not prove every discovered file is readable. A missing store is reported as not_found, not as successful collection.

Collect and Render

aesop collect --source codex
aesop parse --source codex
aesop verify --local-only

collect copies the selected artifacts into your archive. parse renders supported records as Markdown. verify --local-only checks local raw and parsed data without opening backup destinations. These steps do not install a service or start backups.

Read the Result

aesop browser

Open Archive to search titles and read transcripts. With the example workspace, the Markdown library is also available at ~/Aesop/data/parsed/README.md. Original files remain under data/raw/.

Review Logs & Recovery or run aesop logs --source codex for source-specific errors. Collection status and readable parsing coverage are separate: preserved raw data may still be opaque.

Add Backups and Scheduling

After reviewing destination configuration, run aesop backup to mirror the existing archive. aesop run performs collection, optional parsing, backup, status recording, and notification as one attempt. Install the macOS service when you want this pipeline to run on a schedule.
