Source Coverage¶
Aesop archives at the application or harness boundary. Calling the same model through two applications does not imply that they share history. Readable coverage refers to supplied, persisted artifacts, not to every conversation in a provider account.
| Source ID | Preserved Evidence | Readable Coverage and Limits |
|---|---|---|
codex |
Local and archived rollout JSONL, indexes, selected database snapshots, Orca-managed Codex sessions. | Recognized rollout messages and tool events; remote or alternate homes require separate collection. |
claude_code |
Project/session JSONL, including local subagent records. | Saved conversations; not unsaved or remote-only tasks. |
cursor |
Agent JSONL, IDE chats extracted from globalStorage/state.vscdb, workspace databases, conversation index, CLI stores. |
Agent transcripts and IDE chats are readable (chats also saved as agent transcripts are rendered once). The multi-gigabyte state database is kept as a verified snapshot at most weekly; other KV databases remain opaque. |
pi |
Session JSONL at default and configured roots. | Versions 1–3 preserve event/tree links, model metadata, tools, and compaction; not an active-branch replay. |
orca |
Orchestration database and allowlisted terminal metadata/output. | Known mailbox schema and flattened terminal output; collect child harnesses independently. |
gemini_cli |
Persisted chat JSON. | Saved session messages; cache metadata alone is not a transcript. |
chatgpt |
Desktop stores, optional browser snapshots, official imports. | Official exports are readable. The desktop app encrypts its conversation cache, so those files are retained but cannot be decoded; browser capture is partial. |
claude_web, claude_desktop |
Claude account exports; local Cowork transcripts, audit JSONL, and session indexes; Desktop Code indexes. | Exports and Cowork transcripts are turn-structured. claude.ai blocks automated browsers, so chats come from account exports and cloud coding sessions from claude --teleport (then collected as claude_code). Remote Cowork sessions have no local transcript. Local Desktop Code bodies belong to claude_code. |
gemini_web, replit |
Optional browser snapshots, local stores where available, explicit imports. | Browser collection remains partial; unsupported export/store schemas stay opaque. |
grok, grok_build, grok_bots |
Browser/import data, Build session JSONL, explicit Bot text/message/OTLP imports. | Recognized supplied schemas only; no full-account Bot history API is claimed. |
antigravity, windsurf, trae |
Selected IDE stores; Antigravity brain Markdown; Windsurf transcripts. | Antigravity conversation .pb files appear encrypted rather than plain protobuf, and Windsurf Cascade protobuf is not decoded; both remain opaque; recognized text and Windsurf transcript hooks provide partial readable evidence. |
cline, roo_code |
VS Code task message arrays. | Recognized api_conversation_history.json; other profiles may need explicit imports. |
opencode |
Local database and explicit JSON exports. | Recognized export message/part schemas; database versions are not interchangeable. |
github_copilot |
VS Code chat-session JSON/JSONL (including incremental updates) and raw vendor stores. | Recognized request/response records, including Markdown response parts. JetBrains .xd stores (Xodus logs) remain opaque; empty stores are reported as empty. Not the separate Copilot CLI event format. |
warp |
SQLite snapshot. | Retained agent conversations and AI query data for known schemas, subject to macOS access. |
ollama, lm_studio |
Saved desktop conversations and available CLI prompt history. | Persisted records only; API traffic that no client saved is unavailable. |
superwhisper, macwhisper |
Recording metadata and selected SQLite/session files. | Available transcripts and summaries; model files are excluded. |
Imported artifacts use a source ID ending in _export when selecting them for parsing, such as chatgpt_export. Browser results may also have a distinct source label. Inspect your manifests for the exact labels.
Configure Source Access¶
Use Source Access for locations, exports, browser login, and Pi/Orca custom roots. Recovery and Diagnostics documents source-specific errors and recovery commands. aesop help-source <id> gives guidance from the installed version.
Limits of Collection¶
Missing permissions, unavailable cloud files, unsupported schemas, and empty stores are different conditions. Unknown nonempty data remains opaque rather than being reported as empty success. No adapter can recover records that were never persisted or have been deleted. Remote agent tasks need collection on their host or a deliberate export; local orchestration metadata does not prove remote transcript coverage.
