Command Line¶

Run aesop --help or aesop <command> --help for the installed version's exact options. --config PATH is a global option and belongs before the subcommand. --json requests structured output for commands that support it.

Setup and Interfaces¶

Command	Purpose
`aesop setup`	Create the default configuration; alias of `init`.
`aesop doctor --json`	Inspect discovery and configuration; alias `check`.
`aesop discover`	List discovered artifacts.
`aesop browser`	Open the browser interface on this computer.
`aesop serve --no-open --port 8765`	Run the local server in the foreground.
`aesop dashboard`	Open the dashboard in the current terminal; aliases `ui` and `UI`.
`aesop desktop`	Launch the separately built Tauri component.
`aesop open --ui browser`	Override the configured interface for one launch.
`aesop preferences --ui browser`	Save the default interface.
`aesop preferences --terminal iTerm2`	Select the terminal for future terminal launches.

Collection and Backups¶

Command	Purpose
`aesop collect --source codex`	Collect a selected source; repeat `--source` to select several.
`aesop collect --dry-run`	Inspect discovery without copying source artifacts.
`aesop import chatgpt export.zip`	Preserve an export under its source identity.
`aesop parse`	Render supported archived records as Markdown.
`aesop parse --rebuild --audit-revisions`	Rebuild and decode retained older revisions into a separate audit.
`aesop run`	Collect, optionally parse, back up, record results, and notify.
`aesop run --if-due`	Start the pipeline only if the schedule is due.
`aesop backup`	Mirror the existing archive to configured destinations.
`aesop verify --local-only`	Check raw and rendered local data.
`aesop verify`	Also verify configured local/iCloud destinations.
`aesop compact [--dry-run]`	Remove older revisions that are byte-for-byte prefixes of a newer retained revision (append-only session logs). Provenance is kept in `compacted_revisions`.
`aesop verify --restore-to PATH`	Verify, then copy the primary archive into a separate directory.

Recovery and macOS Service¶

`aesop coverage`	Show the latest coverage manifest.
`aesop help-source chatgpt`	Explain source-specific formats and recovery.
`aesop logs --source codex`	Show recent results and bounded logs.
`aesop recover claude_code`	Collect and parse one saved source without backups.
`aesop login chatgpt`	Sign in using an isolated browser profile; alias `auth`.
`aesop enable-transcripts windsurf`	Configure the supported prospective transcript hook.
`aesop service install`	Install or upgrade the macOS app and LaunchAgent.
`aesop service status`	Inspect the loaded service.
`aesop service run-now`	Request a due check without interrupting an active collection.
`aesop service uninstall`	Remove managed service/app files while retaining user data.
`aesop notifications enable`	Request native notification authorization interactively.
`aesop notifications status`	Inspect notification authorization.
`aesop notifications test`	Send a preview without collecting data.
