Archive Coding Sessions¶
This example brings saved Codex and Claude Code sessions into one readable library. It works with local persisted histories; remote machines and alternate application homes need their own collection or explicit imports.
Collect Two Sources¶
With your environment activated and configuration created:
aesop collect --source codex --source claude_code --dry-run
aesop collect --source codex --source claude_code
aesop parse --source codex --source claude_code
aesop verify --local-only
Codex discovery includes local and archived rollout JSONL. Claude Code discovery includes saved project transcripts and local subagent records. Authentication files are excluded by the source allowlists. See Local Transcript Formats for the underlying records.
Inspect a Conversation¶
Open aesop browser, choose Archive, and filter by source. Search for a conversation title, then inspect Document Metadata for available source, model, and ancestry fields. Large documents load in bounded sections.
The corresponding Markdown files live below <data_root>/parsed/. A readable document is a rendering of saved evidence; tool records and alternate branches depend on the source format. Keep the original artifact when you need to inspect details beyond the rendered view.
Repeat After a New Session¶
Run the collection and parsing commands again after saving another session. Identical artifacts are not duplicated; changed immutable session artifacts receive content-addressed revisions. Parsing uses its manifest to avoid unnecessary work and retries affected records after decoder changes.
If no sessions appear, run aesop help-source codex or aesop logs --source claude_code. Discovery cannot recover unsaved, deleted, or remote-only conversations. Use Recovery and Diagnostics to distinguish those gaps from parser failures.
